Growers United FC give a boost to Link Nurseries with generous donation

Link Nurseries in Powick has welcomed a £1000 donation and horticulture supplies from Growers United FC to support its work.

Link Nurseries is a community-focused horticultural centre providing therapeutic and vocational services and activities for people recovering from mental and physical ill-health. The site is run by WCG, supported by The Bransford Trust and also offers the Well-bean Gardening Club along with plant and produce sales.

Makhan Singh, owner of Vicarage Nurseries - and one of the founders of Growers United FC - heard about Link Nurseries through his close links with Pershore College and suggested it as one of the beneficiaries of Growers United FC charitable giving.

Growers United FC has established itself as one of the leading corporate social responsibility projects in the Vale of Evesham, bringing together local horticultural and agricultural businesses to support charities and build stronger links among local residents. Members include Vicarage Nurseries, Evesham Vale Growers, Zenith Nurseries, R and L Holt, Kanes Food, Evesham Specialists Packaging and Eurofresh to name just a few.

The members of Growers United FC visited Link Nurseries last week to see first hand the work they do. The growers were shown around by Link Nurseries manager, Phil Woodhead, and met some of the clients, as well as Occupational Therapy students from the University of Worcester who are gaining experience supporting clients at the Nurseries.

Bulrush Horticulture donated a large amount of growbags to the Nurseries, which are already in use by the clients. David Smith from the company said, “We’re really pleased to be supporting Link Nurseries and it’s been great to see their work today. I was amazed how diverse the offering was, so there is the opportunity for people to grow vegetables, ornamental plants, herbs and so on - and both outdoors or indoors in the polytunnel. I’m really glad to that Growers United FC are adding value to this fantastic community project, which is helping people from so many walks of life.”

Sharon Bell, WCG Group Vice Principal for Commercial said, “We were absolutely delighted to welcome the team from Growers United FC to Link Nurseries today. It’s fantastic to see them so interested in what we are doing, and wonderful to hear that they would like to be involved on an ongoing basis.

“We’re very keen to talk to other local companies who might want to support us through sponsorship as that would help us expand our service to help even more people. It’s such a worthwhile investment to make for our community’s wellbeing.”

PLEASE NOTE Link Nurseries is no longer part of WCG as of Thursday 25th July 2024.
