Engaging with customers and serving them in a helpful and friendly way

Communicating with fellow volunteers about what has sold and needs re-stocking

Honing your retail and cashier skills behind the till and taking payments

Promoting Gift Aid and sales campaigns, and chatting to customers

A chance to work in a friendly team, make new friends & meet a diverse group

The time to develop your confidence and interpersonal skills

The ability to gain valuable retail experience to add to your CV and learn new skills

Stock Room Volunteer

Whether you’re a keen rummager, an organised operator or love the look of a freshly ironed shirt, we have a role for you. If you like things to be neat and tidy, then we need your help to sort the donations we receive into their different categories. If you’re a lover of the iron then master the steamer and watch those creases and wrinkles disappear.

Laugh and catch up with other volunteers over the sort room table or over a cup of tea and biscuit at break time. At the end of the day, go home feeling satisfied and proud that you’ve helped to raise vital funds for research into combating heart disease. Whether you’re a lover of vintage clothing, stunning jewellery or beautiful bric-a-brac or just fancy the company of other friendly volunteers the sort room is the place to be. Perfect for enhancing your CV and skills set.

Typical tasks include:

Sorting out donated items and preparing them for sale

Using a clothes steamer and tagging price labels on to clothing items

Identifying unsaleable donations for recycling

Keeping the sort room organised and tidy

You get a lot from volunteering too:

A chance to work in a friendly team, make new friends & meet a diverse group

The time to develop your confidence and interpersonal skills

The ability to gain valuable retail experience to add to your CV and learn new skills

Book Department Volunteer

Do you love literature? Live in your library? Run out of book clubs to join? Looking for retail experience with the opportunity to share your love of books? Help price, organise and display our wide range of books as part of our retail assistant team. Create exciting and eye-catching displays, find hidden gems behind the scenes or just share your love of a good read with customers on the shop floor – it all helps raise life-saving funds that will Beat Heartbreak Forever.

Typical tasks include:

· Sharing your love of books whilst on the shop floor

· Promoting our campaigns to customers

· Keeping the shop tidy and well-organised – some light housekeeping

· Helping sort donations in the stock room, cleaning, recycling, categorising and pricing books behind the scenes ready for sale

· Working on window and/or shop displays – getting creative alongside the Manager

You get a lot from volunteering too:

· A chance to work in a friendly team, make new friends & meet a diverse group

· The time to develop your confidence and interpersonal skills

· The ability to gain valuable retail experience to add to your CV and learn new skills
