Description

You will study both practical and theory units. This course is ideal for those looking to gain employment in the painting and decorating industry. Please note: maths and English are an integral part of this course. However if you already hold these qualifications at grade 4 or above then you will be exempt from studying for these qualifications. Learners will engage in additional extra curricular activities such as charity projects, community events and working with local schools. The national Skillbuild competition is an annual intercollege competition which learners from WCG have gained first place in the regional heats for the last 2 years and then gone on to the national finals. Learners will also have opportunity to take part in course relevant trips, such as, the Construction Show at the NEC. Learners will attend site visits throughout the year to gain industry insight. Guest speakers are a regular part of enriching the course content.

Methods of study: Theoretical as well as practical skills will be taught and developed to suit the needs of the candidate and the requirements of the awarding body. Entry requirements

Three GCSEs at grade 2 or above to include maths and English language.

You will receive a conditional offer of a place at college, which means that you MUST meet the entry requirements to be able to enrol in the summer. We will provide details of how you can bring in your results following GCSE results day, to allow you to complete your enrolment with us.

Career progression

A typical opening would be working for a painting and decorating contractor as a trainee painter and decorator on site. You will be encouraged to secure relevant employment and become an apprentice in order to complete the standards at Level 2 and 3 studies and possibly continue with construction management training.
