This is a practical course which aims to develop creative craft skills in visual storytelling.
At its core, the course imbeds current discussions on film and screen practices within todays’ filmmaking culture. This is all taught through practical assignments that can be exhibited across different media platforms preparing graduates to engage as global practitioners, whilst contributing to the developing creative industries and the new ways in which film is now being consumed by audiences.
Industry craft skills are taught through production and post-production techniques supported with sustained access to industry standard production equipment and post-production softwares.
This course provides a 'top-up' year for any student from a Level 5 Film, Arts or Media background as a progression route to final year honours degree studies.
This course is delivered and awarded by Warwickshire College and is regulated by the Office for Students (OfS).

The course is 90% practical and as such involves a lot of production led activities in its approach to teaching and learning. All the coursework will involve production elements which are assessed in relation to your creative skills and ability to engage audiences in your storytelling techniques.
There are no examinations on this course
Applicants will be required to hold a Level 5 qualification such as a Higher National Diploma or Foundation Degree in a related programme.
Applicants will normally be invited to attend an application meetting. The application meeting is part of a supportive process to help you to decide the right course for you and your career goals.

After completing the course, students will be prepared for careers in the film and TV industries, as well as the related creative and media industries.
Examples of previous student employment include Elstree Studios (George Lucas Stage), Pinewood Studios, Aardman Animations, ITV, BBC, Independent Filmmaker, freelance crew member - camera operator, assistant editor, 1st assistant director, 2nd assistant director, assistant editor, editor, producer, director, lecturer, YouTuber, vlogger, Empire Magazine journalist, film reviewer.

The delivery of the course is through lecture-based sessions/demonstrations, practical workshops, independent study, and group and individual tutorials.
Students will have access to industry-standard production equipment and individual edit suites with full functioning software packages.
Green screen studio shoot facilities are available and there is tutor support five days a week and access to facilities.

On occasion there may be circumstances outside our control (e.g. the Covid pandemic) which result in us having to make additional changes to the details about the courses we have advertised. These changes could affect fees, dates and how the course is taught. Courses may be taught in different ways and could include both face to face and remote delivery. Remote delivery means learning through logging into classes through a computer.
Sometimes, there are not enough people wanting to do a course to make it possible for us to run that course. If this happens, applicants will be offered another course in a similar subject area.
